When you have diabetes, it’s especially important to stay healthy, although sometimes it isn’t easy. If you have diabetes you do not have to go it alone - a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) can help find solutions to staying healthy that fit your lifestyle.
Certified Diabetes Educators are experienced healthcare professionals - such as registered dietitians and registered nurses - who have special knowledge and skills to help successfully manage all aspects of diabetes.
Diabetes education helps people with diabetes learn how to manage their disease and be as healthy as possible by focusing on self-care behaviors and designing specific plans that include the support and tools you need. Diabetes education may include:
Diabetes education works.Studies show that diabetes education helps people lower their blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, meaning a difference in your health and reducing diabetes complications.
Diabetes education requires a referral from your primary care provider. People who attend diabetes education are not required to see an endocrinologist. Diabetes education is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and many insurance companies when provided by an accredited program. Our program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association. Diabetes education attendees are asked to check with their insurance company to verify coverage.
