Village Hospital President Named Chair of Upstate Heart Walk
Anthony (Tony) Kouskolekas, President of Village Hospital in Greer, has been named the 2014 Upstate Heart Walk Chairman by the American Heart Association.
Spartanburg Regional Health System has been a long-time and ardent supporter of the American Heart Association.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Greer City Park and will host over 3,000 individuals from over 100 Upstate medical, business and social communities to raise funds to reduce disability and death from the nation’s No. 1 killer, cardiovascular disease.
“Last year we raised over $600,000 in the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Kouskolekas. “This year, we want to hit the $675,000 mark while having fun and educating the public. It’s easy for people in the Upstate to get involved. By forming or joining a fundraising team, you are fighting against cardiovascular disease and increasing awareness.”
The Upstate Heart Walk is an opportunity for people to initiate changes in their health through walking, while raising funds to help prevent heart disease and stroke—America’s No. 1 and 4 killers. The annual event is a non-competitive, 3-mile walk in which teams are created by employees from local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages. The Upstate Heart Walk is nationally sponsored by Subway Restaurants and Jenny Craig.
“I am extremely honored to serve as chair of the Upstate Heart Walk,” said Kouskolekas. “I encourage my colleagues in the Upstate to support the Heart Walk by enlisting their companies and employees to participate this year. We all share the Association’s goals and I look forward to doing my part in raising funds for the fight against heart disease and stroke.”
